1 Babar  (1526-1530)

Babar started the Mughal Empire in India. He beat the Lodi rulers in the First Battle of Panipat to do it.

2 Humayun (1530-1540 & 1555-1556)

Humayu, who was Babar's son, briefly lost his king's chair to Sher Shah Suri. But he fought back and got it back again later.

3 Akbar (1556 -1605)

Akbar was one of the best Mughal emperors. People think highly of him because he was fair about religions, changed how things were run, and made the empire much bigger.

4 Jahangir (1605-1627)

Jahangir, who was Akbar's son, really loved art and learning new things.

5 Shah Jahan (1628-1658)

Shah Jahan, who was Jahangir's son, is famous because he built the Taj Mahal to remember his third wife, Mumtaz.

6 Aurangzeb (1658-1707)

Aurangzeb was the final big Mughal emperor. People remember him for being very strict about religion and for wanting to expand the empire.

7 Bahadur Shah 1 (1707–1712) 

Bahadur Shah was the son of Aurangzeb. At one point, Bahadur Shah tried to do something sneaky against his father and was put in prison for a short time.

8 Jahandar Shah  (1712-1713)

Jahandar Shah was Bahadur Shah I's son. His time ruling was chaotic because there was a lot of fighting between powerful people trying to get control.

9 Muhammad Shah (1713-1748)

Mohammad Shah was Bahadur Shah I's grandson. While he was in charge, the Mughal Empire got a bit stronger again for a short time. But there were also some tough fights with Marathas 

10 Ahmad Shah Bahadur (1748-1754)

Ahmad Shah Bahadur was Muhammad Shah's son. During his rule, the empire got even weaker because there were a lot of internal and external fights. 

11 Alamgir 2 (1754-1759)

Alamgir 2 was Jahandar Shah's son. He had to deal with a lot of trouble from the Marathas and Afghans all the time, which made the empire go down even more.

12 Shah Jahan 3 (1759-1788)

Shah Jahan 3, who came from Bahadur Shah 1's family, mostly just did what the Marathas told him to do.

13 Bahadur Shah 2 (1837-1857) 

Bahadur Shah 2  was the last Mughal emperor. He didn't have much real power because the British controlled things.
